It’s a New Year! Get it done!

Well, the New Year is now here. It’s time to start making this a good one. Many people tend to have New Year’s Resolutions. What’s yours?

I personally, have chosen three New Year’s Resolutions for myself. The three resolutions are:

1)      No Soda

(I used to be a hardcore athlete and I disliked soda because of its carbonation. In the past year, I drink more of it and as a result I have felt less fit as the days have gone by. Now, I’m going to convince myself to stay away once again. )

2)      Stick to Fitness Regimen

(The past year I had a wild time sticking to a fitness regimen. In an attempt to stick to one, my friends and I have come up with a competition. It’s time I give them something to compete with. )

3)      Reduce Candy Intake

(The reasons are obvious. Too much is a bad thing. )

The above are all simple resolutions that I believe I can achieve. The point of making them simple is so that I can complete them. By keeping them short I will be able to remember them and therefore act upon them.

Here are some tips to consider that may help you succeed in sticking to your New Year’s Resolution(s).

First, put a list of your resolutions everywhere. By doing so, you will remember them every day.

1)      Put them on your mirror

2)      Put a picture of your resolutions on your cell phone wallpaper

3)      Put them on your front door

4)      Put them on your desktop wallpaper

Second, make a plan. You need to have a plan to stick too. Without a plan, you’re flying blindly. So, make one and stick to it! Don’t let anything stop you from doing your best.

It may help to have a friend involved in helping you stick to the plan. As I mentioned above, my friends and I have agreed to compete in a fitness competition. Knowing that eventually I will have to compete, so I will prepare. This forces me to get fit and stick to a fitness regimen.

So what can you do? Well, have a friend check up on you. Or perhaps, check up on each other and show approval when you two achieve your goal of sticking to the plan. You’d be surprised how much people seek social approval.

Third, think about them! It is important that you think about your resolutions. Even if you put them everywhere, it may not even help. Why? Well, eventually you will get use to the lists being where you put them. Once you are use to the lists being there, you’ll unconsciously learn to block it out. When that happens, you begin to forget. Then, the next thing you know you’ve eaten a foot long Hersey’s candy bar. Seriously, it could happen. Especially for me, I have one sitting in the fridge right now.

Forth, love what you’ve done. If you’ve managed to dodge pit falls and hold up your goal, also called your New Year’s Resolution, reward yourself! Okay, so how might you do that? Well, it all depends. I personally, reward myself mentally. I’ll daydream and think about how people might admire my dedication to stick to the plan. Or admire my passion to do the right thing. It all depends on who you want to be in the end. So, think of a reward and give it to yourself.
